Our service members deserve better

Troops are being deployed domestically without congressional approval, and their families are paying the price.

I go through days without being able to talk with my husband, so that’s a lot of stress on the spouse and family because my 3-year-old doesn’t get what’s going on. He just sees dad’s gone, where’s dad, so it’s a constant stressor.

The Constitution gives Congress — not any single office — the power to deploy troops. This system of checks and balances exists to protect our service members from being sent into harm’s way without proper oversight and accountability.

Deploying U.S. troops is one of the most serious decisions our government can make, and Congress Members who represent Virginia families should have a say in these decisions. Especially when 99% of Americans are against National Guard deployments in their communities.

It’s time for Congress to show courage and do its job

What we’re asking is simple: to call on Members of Congress like Rep. Jen Kiggans to:

  • Provide oversight for domestic troop deployments
  • Require congressional approval for deployments lasting more than 14 days
  • Protect our troops by ensuring these serious decisions have proper authorization

Our service members and their families deserve leadership that takes responsibility for these decisions. Stand with RepresentUs and demand our representatives do what’s right for the people they represent.
