Washington, D.C.
— The U.S. Senate rightly blocked the so-called Stop Insider Trading Act (H.R. 7008), RepresentUs said today. By a vote of 53–47, the Senate failed to reach the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed. More than 200 RepresentUs supporters along with coalition partners had pledged to contact key senators ahead of the vote, urging them to reject the bill. Those senators voted NO.

"Today the Senate refused to let a fake fix pass as reform," said RepresentUs CEO Maria McFarland Sánchez-Moreno. "SITA would have kept letting lawmakers profit from corporate stocks and other private interests like crypto, private interests over which they have oversight. But Americans spoke up and demanded better. Now Congress needs to finish the job. Pass the Restore Trust in Congress Act, the real bipartisan ban on congressional stock trading that's ready to go."

RepresentUs and 13 other good-government organizations had urged Congress to vote against SITA and pass the Restore Trust in Congress Act (H.R. 5106 / S. 3649) instead.
