(September 16, 2021) Tallahassee, Fla.: RepresentUs, a national movement of independents, progressives, and conservatives, today released its latest statewide polling results ahead of the state’s redistricting process that shows support across all demographics for a fair and transparent reapportionment process.
Joe Kabourek, Senior Campaign Director for RepresentUs shared, “Results of our recent survey in Florida show that Republicans, Democrats and Independent voters agree that gerrymandering is a major problem that undermines the integrity of our elections. State legislators have an opportunity to improve trust in our elections by adopting fair voting maps and improving transparency in the process.”
The survey revealed that by a three-to-one margin (43-14%), voters expect that legislative leaders will engage in the fraught process of gerrymandering with 57% of Independents and 49% of Republicans saying this would be a major problem ahead of the 2022 election cycle.
Kabourek added, “It’s clear that voters see gerrymandering as a major problem because it’s a conflict of interest that benefits politicians and undermines our elections. There is no doubt that Florida legislators would serve the public well by having a reapportionment process that is more transparent and builds on the 2016 approved maps.”
