The way most of us vote is flawed. In our current elections, voters are often forced to choose between the lesser of two evils. Americans have limited choices, and third-party candidates never seem to have a real shot at winning elections.

The solution? Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). It gives us, the voters, better choices and better representation. Here's how it work:

The Benefits:

  • You’re not forced to choose between the lesser of two evils or risk helping a candidate you oppose.
  • You get better choices on the ballot. Lots of potential great candidates want to run for office but don’t want to split their party’s vote. Now they can campaign without fear of acting as a spoiler.
  • In order to win, candidates must win support from a majority of voters. In our current plurality system, when there are several candidates running, the winner may only need to get 20, 30, 40 percent of the vote.
  • Elections are cheaper. With RCV, there’s no need to hold a separate, costly, low- turnout runoff election.
