FORMER STARBUCKS CEO HOWARD SCHULTZ TO ADDRESS THE ELECTORAL PROCESS AT NATION’S LARGEST RIGHT-LEFT ANTI-CORRUPTION SUMMIT IN NASHVILLE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 15, 2019) – Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz will take the stage at the Unrig Summit 2019, speaking to the broken American electoral process. Schultz will join a cross-partisan group of respected thought leaders, A-list celebrities, grassroots activists, academics, artists, and musicians in a powerful convening reflective of a fast-growing anti-corruption movement.

"For too long Washington has been about self-interest and polarization,” Schultz said. “I'm thrilled to join this year's attendees of the Unrig Summit to discuss how we can create a government that truly works for the American people.”

Unrig Summit, the nation’s largest democracy reform summit, will be held March 29-31, 2019 in Nashville, Tenn. At the Unrig Summit, Schultz will join a growing list of high-profile speakers, progressive and conservative, uniting to fix America’s broken political system in an era defined by severe gridlock and polarization.

Additional confirmed speakers include:

  • U.S. House Representatives Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), Mike Gallagher (R-WI), and Tim Burchett (R-TN)
  • ‘Pod Save the People’ host and activist DeRay McKesson,
  • Professor and “Corruption in America” author Zephyr Teachout
  • RepresentUs board member Jennifer Lawrence
  • Actress, comedian, and SNL Alum Sasheer Zamata
  • Co-Chair, Issue One ReFormers Caucus and Former U.S. Representative (R-TN)  Zach Wamp
  • Harvard Law School professor and Equal Citizens founder Lawrence Lessig
  • United Nations Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights Katie Gilmore

The full list of current speakers can be found here.

Backed by the nation’s leading left-right anti-corruption group RepresentUs and Leadership Council members American Promise, Issue One, National Vote from Home Institute, and Unite America, Unrig focuses on addressing the systemic structural failures in election, ethics, and campaign finance policy at the root of political dysfunction. Attendees will include national policy leaders, academics, filmmakers, tech innovators, elected officials, activists, and community leaders, coming together to collaborate, forge alliances, share resources, and build a national network.

In addition to speeches and panels, Unrig Summit provides 2,000+ attendees with solutions-oriented panels, hands-on-trainings and workshops, opportunities to connect and collaborate, and top caliber music and entertainment. An early look at the program is available here.

“With nearly half of Americans opting not to join either major political party, no potential candidate should be ostracized for wanting to run for office as an Independent. Howard Schultz is a welcome addition to our line-up for Unrig, bringing his perspective on a broken electoral system to attendees who want a better way to elect our political leaders,” RepresentUs co-founder and director Josh Silver said. “The ‘spoiler effect’ is an example of a deeply broken election system. No other conference is confronting our political system failure head-on in this solutions-oriented, creative, and fun way.”

Journalists, members of the press, and independent writers and bloggers are invited to join RepresentUs for this historic conference. Contact press@represent.us for information regarding 2019 Unrig Summit System press credentials.
