🗳 PROPOSITION 133 would require taxpayers to pay for primary elections for all major parties and would grant the partisan majority at the legislature more control over what is on our ballot. Additionally, it would enshrine into the Constitution the unfair treatment of Independent voters in primary elections and create obstacles for Independent candidates to access the ballot.
⛔️ PROPOSITION 134 would add more red tape to the already difficult and expensive ballot initiative process. It would require initiatives to collect enough signatures not just statewide, but also within specific regions. If these regional quotas aren't met, it could invalidate many signatures, even if there's strong statewide support.
✍️ PROPOSITION 136 would place virtually insurmountable hurdles to citizen led ballot initiatives by allowing challenges to the constitutionality of a ballot measure before its signature collection is complete. This could open the door for wealthy corporations to bury an initiative they don’t like in lawsuits while it’s still in the early stages of gathering support.
⚖️ PROPOSITION 137 would eliminate judicial retention elections, both now and in the future, affecting the ability of voters to vote on the retention of judges, including those involved in significant rulings such as the state's historical abortion ban.
