Newly-elected Speaker of the House Mike Johnson participated in an unsuccessful attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
After that plan was decisively rejected by the Supreme Court, Johnson tried to overturn the election again when he and 146 of his fellow Republicans voted against certifying the 2020 election results.
The Speaker of the House is third in line to the presidency and is responsible for certifying the results of presidential elections. Despite his refusal to do so after the 2020 election, Speaker Johnson must commit to upholding the will of the voters, regardless of his personal political preferences.
