It’s time for Ranked Choice Voting statewide in Oregon. Our current “choose-one” elections force voters to choose candidates they think are more viable instead of their actual preference. Fear of vote splitting discourages candidates from entering a race, and races with three or more candidates often result in a winner with less than 50% of the vote.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Oregon has an opportunity to pass Ranked Choice Voting for all national and statewide races. Oregon’s legislature is considering HB2004 — the Ranked Choice Voting bill. If passed, HB2004 would mean better choices on the ballot, and more reflective representation for Oregonians.
