Tell Congress: Stop Trump's IRS Heist

The Trump administration has made an unprecedented deal–with itself. After a judge started looking into his lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (which he controls), President Trump decided to bypass the court and "settle" the lawsuit.

As part of this "deal:"

Trump, his family, and businesses will be forever protected from audits for any tax filings made up to May 2026.
The Department of Justice–run by Trump’s former lawyer, interim Attorney General Todd Blanche–will establish a $1.776 billion compensation fund for January 6 insurrectionists and other allies of the president who claim to be victims of "weaponization".¹

American taxpayers will foot the bill, and Trump will have the ability to remove the people appointed to administer the fund.

And members of Congress who could stop it? Well, former DOJ Pardons Attorney Liz Oyer has reported that Blanche gave Republican senators a memo saying some of them could also get payouts from the fund.²

This is effectively a heist. President Trump is using his office to take money from the American people, give payouts to his friends and allies, and protect himself and his family from audits. He is turning our government into something more like an organized crime operation than a free democracy.

The federal judge who was overseeing the IRS suit has launched an inquiry to determine whether the settlement amounts to collusion, fraud, and corruption.³

Any member of Congress who supports this raiding of taxpayer funds will make themselves complicit.

Congress still controls the purse strings, and they can stand up and say enough is enough.

But they will only do that if they fear us more than the president.

I am contacting you today to demand that you take immediate action to block the proposed $1.776 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund" as part of a settlement the Trump administration has negotiated with the IRS, an agency he controls

The President is misusing his power for private gain. That’s the definition of corruption. He is avoiding court scrutiny by engaging in self-dealing, using nearly $2 billion in taxpayer money to compensate his allies. The proposed "Truth and Justice Commission" being established by the Justice Department to administer the funds lacks fundamental transparency and is not obligated to disclose how it awards these massive payouts. Its members, Justice Department officials say, may be removed by President Trump.

I am particularly concerned by reports that the Justice Department has suggested members of Congress themselves could profit from the fund, in an apparent attempt to gain their support. That sounds like a bribe.

A federal judge is now examining whether the settlement itself is the product of collusion and fraud.

As your constituent, I am asking you to publicly oppose this settlement and immediately support legislation to restrict the use of taxpayer dollars for this unaccountable slush fund. Do not become complicit in what looks a lot like theft of our funds.

Congress should protect taxpayer funds, not allow them to be used to reward political loyalty, including for those who engaged in violence and criminal activity to overturn the results of an election. Please stop this settlement.
