FLORENCE, MASS. (September 22, 2020): Today, RepresentUs will host ‘Unlock Your Power to #UnrigTheSystem’, an evening of conversation, culture, and consciousness on the two most important topics of today: race and democracy.

The virtual event is timed for National Voter Registration Day and bridges entertainment and culture. It features:

  • A conversation between actor and RepresentUs Cultural Council Member and actor Omar Epps and legendary activist, RepresentUs board member, and returning citizen, Desmond Meade, who unlocked his power to restore voting rights to 1.4 million Americans with past felony convictions.
  • Musical performances by Songs For Good 2020 challenge finalists selected by GRAMMY-nominated artists and Jammcard musicians, including Divinity Roxx, a member of Beyonce's all-female touring band, The Suga Mamas.
  • A must-see History of Race & Racism in the United States presentation by the highly sought-after and innovative DEI consultancy group, Human in Common.
  • A fast-paced panel discussion bringing together leading advocates for racial justice and democracy reform including Renaldo Pearson, Chief Diversity Officer and Director of External Affairs at RepresentUs; Greisa Martinez Rosas, Executive Director at United We Dream; Michael K. Williams, Emmy-Nominated Actor & Criminal Justice Reform Activist at Crew Count; Michael Steele, Former Republican National Committee Chairman and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland; and Nelini Stamp, Director of Strategy & Partnerships at Working Families Party.

As we approach the November 2020 election, it is critical that we use our power for a more just and representative political system for all Americans. We believe a country that remains unequal and unjust based on the color of one’s skin is not a country that works for all. It’s time for us to wake up and exercise the power we have.

About RepresentUs

RepresentUs is America’s leading anti-corruption organization unrigging America's broken political system. Co-Founded in 2012 by Josh Silver and Joshua Graham Lynn, they are leading a fiercely non-partisan movement of Americans dedicated to putting power back in the hands of the voters. Corruption and a rigged system have halted progress on the issues that Americans care most about, from healthcare to education to government spending. Through the continued passage of state and local laws that fix our broken elections, fight against gerrymandering, stop political bribery, and end secret money, RepresentUs advocates for strong anti-corruption legislation to restore a government that is once again by and for the people. To date, the movement has passed 114 transformative anti-corruption laws and resolutions in cities and states across the country—and in 2018 passed more anti-corruption reform than in any other year in America's history.
